Future Times Square
In a sixteen week period, eighteen Master students currently enrolled at the Technical
University of Delft, the Netherlands, have partaken in a Terraventure research program
on Times Square, Manhattan. The objective: developing concepts/scenarios for a future
Times Square that incorporate its history, politics, economy and urbanism. In addition,
a few New York-based professionals (some captured on video) were interviewed during
the two week site survey: Tim Tompkins of the Times Square Alliance;Kenneth Lewis,
Director at SOM
; Annie Barrett of ARO; Paul E. Cohen, author of ‘Manhattan in Maps’;
and Joshua Prince-Ramus, director of REX. Both the final project proposals and the
interviews will be exhibited in New York in 2011
